new intro

Today I finished the completely new-and-rewritten intro that was coded from scratch in pure 65816-assembler. Not only does it feature a short introduction of all playable characters, but also sports breathtaking visuals (for an SNES anyway, have a gander at the screenshots) and a streamed song complete with vocals, just like Tales of Phantasia!
The song sounds even better than Tales of Phantasia’s, quality-wise anyway.
I chose the song that was composed for the original japanese Breath of Fire 2 commercial in japan, a really nice one if you ask me, you can even hear the background vocals humming"breath of fire". ;)
For the curious, heres an MP3: download mp3

And now, some eye candy:

this is the new titlescreen sporting animated translucent flames:

this is the splash screen with me and my man bredator whos doing all the german translation work. some sexy hdma effects here, multilayer scrolling, background-waving, colour substract, you name it. ;)

some shots showing off the characters:
i repainted all of these images (which happen to be official bof2-artwork) in 16 colours to use them in this intro.
that was some _serious_ work, i can tell you. ;)

summary: whats been done so far

This Blog documents our attempt to

1.) Enhance the original breath of fire 2 game and
2.) Translate the game to German and re-translate it to English.

Our goal is to give the game an improved appearance and carefully tweaked game-play
that stays true to it’s roots, but also justifies giving breath of fire 2 another go 11 years after its initial release.
As of yet, there has never been such an extensive fan made overhaul of a SNES game, EVER! So please, feel free to witness our attempt to take the fan-translation-scene to a completely different level.
You’re welcome to join us on our journey, but please understand that it’s our intent to work with people skilled in the art only, so you’ll have to explain and prove your value to us first. Please note that this is a non-commercial project and everything resulting from it will be made available completely free of charge. We devote quite a bit of our free time to the game and would like you to take this into account when adding comments.
Please keep in mind, we aren’t obliged to even attempt this, it’s just a hobby for us, after all.

Our Current team members are:

Co-Ordinator, Programmer and Graphics artist:

German translation:

English re-translation:

Thus far, in a nut shell, here’s what we’ve done:
-A completely new animated intro with vocal audio track and stunning graphics.
-Various graphical in-game improvements making extensive use of the SNES' capabilities.
-Several bug fixes to the original game
-Various game-play improvements such as the added ability to run in towns and on the Overworld map.
-Partial script-translation to the English and German language.

Here are some screenshots showing off our progress.
The first picture in the sequences will be from the original game, the second pictures depict our current progress:
